Family programs recognize the critical and spiritual importance of the family unit. Families represent the domestic church, and the family members (parents, children) are one body. In non-pandemic times, we would have activities that bring multiple families together. In these unusual times, for safety reasons, our programs will focus within each family in this fraternal year. Our over-riding objective this fraternal year is to allow families to "pro-actively" develop or augment family practices that will strengthen their familial spirituality. As the saying goes, a 'family that prays together stays together'. The scope will not merely be on prayer and fathers/mothers are encouraged to develop their special family practices.

Food for Families

An increasing number of families are facing food insecurities during this pandemic times. The loss or reduction in household incomes and inflation in food prices have resulted in increasing hunger, especially among the vulnerable. Our Council collects donated food from major contributors and provides that to The Storehouse in Covington. In addition, depending on the season, we drive programs such as 40 Cans For Lent to increase awareness of this community need, and offer parishioners opportunities to directly contribute.

FAMILY WEEK

We have 52 weeks in the year. Let's dedicate one week as a family to God when we undertake family activities to place God and our faith in the center of our lives. Families with strong vibrant faith practices are the building blocks of our parish community. This will likely take place in conjunction with the feast day of the Holy Family, when the spot light is on the Holy Family's example to Catholic families. Expected activities and practices to be encouraged include family prayer time, deciding on a family patron saint, family sacrament of confession, family scripture time. Final details will be communicated..

CONSECRATION TO THE HOLY FAMILY

The feast day of the Holy Family falls on Sunday, Dec 27, 2020. During masses on this feast day, it's an opportunity for families in the parish to "consecrate" themselves as a family to the Holy Family. Consecration means “to make holy.” When a family makes an act of consecration, it is made ultimately to God with the understanding that our consecration is a serious commitment on our part to respond faithfully to God’s grace at work in our lives as a family unit. Special prayer cards for the family will be distributed at the weekend masses. God's grace through this consecration will spiritually bind the family together in their walk with God..
